How to add and hide Webmaster Tools verification code

Hi,

I'm having trouble verifying my site for webmaster tools. I followed the instructions in a previous topic (see http://forum.graphene-theme.com/graphene-support/how-to-add-webmaster-tools-verification-code#post-30666) which solved the problem i.e. Google recognised that I authored the site.

However, then the verification code was visible on the website, which of course I do not want

How do I hide the verification code please? Or should I put the verification code somewhere else?

I'm guessing I'm missing something very simple so apologies in advance.

Hmmm....I don't see that code on your site. Are you using IE?

I do see a Google Plus link which is missing an icon, however.

What if you just remove that verification code from Custom <head> tags?

The Google Plus link verifies the authorship for google which is fine but I don't want a visible link or icon on the page.

I have just removed it from the custom head tag, but now when I use the Google 'Structured Data Testing Tool (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets), the following error pops up:

Warning: Missing required hCard "author".

Hy,

Currently there is no Webmaster Tools verifying code on your site. If you're using HTML tag verification method, it should be something like this:
```
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="blablabla" />
```
There is a few other ways to verify site: file upload, through Analytics code, domain name provider.
What do you mean by " verification code was visible on the website". Was it visible on front end?

update:
OK I see it now. Does it works?

Hi,

Thanks for all your chipping in.

I am using Chrome. I have since removed the link in the header. The link verified the authorship of the site using Google's structured data testing tool (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets). However, now that I have removed again from the Custom <head> tags. it I get the following error message:

Warning: Missing required hCard "author".

I tried adding a Google+ social media icon alongside my youtube and twitter icons but this doesn't seem to work either.

Luko - I tried adding it as a meta tag as you suggest but no luck either. This is not for Analytics by the way, but rather for Google's ability to extract structured data. The method described in http://forum.graphene-theme.com/graphene-support/how-to-add-webmaster-tools-verification-code#post-30666 works i.e. the warning does not appear. However it is visible to users of the website which of course I do not want.

The code is that Google instruct me to insert is <a href="https://plus.google.com/109385750906766593524?
rel=author">Google

I steel don't understand what is unwanted content here. If you put meta tag in head it's not visible on front end.
As far as I see, for GSDTT you have to include G+ button and link back from g+ profile to verify authorship. This is something different, don't confuse verification for webmaster tools and authorship verification.
P.S. You can always hide G+ button with CSS if the button is unwanted content on your site.
